This is the applied version of Arthur C. Clarke's Three Laws, specifically the third law:
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
In the applied form, one endeavors to engineer "magical experiences" by alloying one's knowledge of the cosmos with the skills to craft whatever is needed to produce the effect. My particular use of the term "practical" borrows from special effects lingo and illusion magic, where magicians do an incredible amount of behind-the-scenes work and practice their showmanship such that the moment appears effortless.
I really like experiences that seem magical, and a personal goal is to achieve some level of mastery where I can produce effects that impact and inspire others.
