Sri Story Notes

It’s late in the day, and I’m tired, so I’m just going to try winging the voice today in as simple a way as possible. I am feeling ditzy but good! How will that affect my writing voice?

As an additional challenge, I’ll push technical notes into the sidebar while keeping the main flow ditzy.

Mrah! It’s late! I’m sleepy! I demand attention and tribute! But there’s no one to provide me with these things, so I suppose I will have to pay tribute to myself. Harrumph!

“You got a good chunk of stuff done today, Sri!” I informed myself with the greatest sincerity. “You made GREAT progress on your proof-of-concept web server!”

I lowered my head humbly. “Ah, the decision making was uncertain and the foundation is still shaky, but it is strong enough for me to see possibilities of the framework. I am but a small cat, after all, and such progress is nearly beyond my feeble cognitive capacity.”

Technical Accomplishments

Today’s achievements are related to 'serving a bunch of files from a special location on the server to a browser".

  • Defined a human-friend “Tenant-scoped Application URL” schema
  • Wrote DecodeAppUrl() to parse these Application URLs into useful parameters.
  • Came up with a placeholder system to convert those parameters into a filesystem location.
  • Rewrite the Deno server startup code to pull command-line switches from a YAML file so there was a single source of truth available.

It doesn’t look like much–I still can’t serve files yet–but each step required forethought about the needs for the kind of web applications I want to develop: small, cat-sized webapps that spurn enterprise scale in favor lean one-git-clone-to-install projects that are easy to extend and deploy.

“Nonsense!” I rejoined. “You are learning a WHOLE NEW THING in a NEW ENVIRONMENT, and trying to also recall how you did such things a year ago. Take the credit! I can see you are picking up steam again!”

I was taken aback by this unexpected praise. Was I really doing okay? It actually had been much easier making progress when I let go of the notion I was any kind of real software engineer, which took the pressure off trying to prove I wasn’t incompetent. Really, I am but a small cat that knows how to type code and make-up stuff that make sense to me. I like making that are direct, clear, sturdy enough to pile on top of each other, with clear purpose expressed with consistent labeling. That’s good enough.

I am a rather fussy and fastidious cat in that way. Not everyone appreciates or values that! But hell, I’m not a real developer so I will just developer things for my own needs and friends! It is part of the Cat’s Way!!!

It had actually been a pretty productive day, some 4.25 hours of focused decision-making and implementation, using Claude Code to look-up details about this new code environment so I could type code in myself. It was actually a very nice way to work.
