What are Sri-kin?

"Sri-kin" describes people who are aligned with one or more facets of Sri's system of values and mission.

Sri-kin Values and Mission

All Sri-kin believe in creating a culture of connection, collaboration, and psychological safety in alignment with their values.

Sri-kin values are selected to foster a baseline of expectations:

  • allowing people to be themselves without fear
  • find ways to openly express their own whimsical uniqueness to others
  • find and nurture empowering connections

Sri-kin understand that this is a group effort that demands mindful commitment. This is a significant amount of work that requires practice, refined through trial and shared reflection. In time, a culture evolves.

Sri-kin aspire to express one or more of these traits:

  • They believe in heartfelt authenticity and transparency and speak their truth without malice or guile.
  • They aspire to create psychological safety through functional approaches.
  • They are generally positive-minded, self-empowered, curious, conscientious, competent, generous, and kind people who enjoy sharing knowledge and work experiences.
  • They want to contribute, support, or build the tools that improve the experiences and sustains all Sri-kin.
  • They individually adopt the mission as their own, adapting it to their own interests while retaining the overall commitment to creating a mutually-beneficial space.
  • They speak their own truths and words, and seek to negotiate understanding and shape the direction through word and action.

Sri-kin Roles

All Sri-kin embodies at least one of the following traits to be an active member of [[The Colony]] in a holistic ecosystem:

  1. Architects establish the frameworks
  2. Creators generate the community's offerings and market excitement
  3. Supporters enhance and enable the overall culture
  4. Consumers provide sustainability through appreciation and economic support
  5. Friends of Sri-kin are compatible entities with overlapping values, independent but allied.

1. Architects

Architect-type Sri-kin have interest in designing tangible structures that support the community with continual affordances that gently reinforce connection, collaboration, and psychological safety. The approach emphasizes suggestion and positive reinforcement over explicit regulation.

Architects are:

  • system thinkers with strong emotional intelligence
  • practiced in planning and implementing social systems
  • experienced with technology projects
  • experienced with hosting inclusive events
  • experienced in creating clear presentations
  • articulate speaker and writer
  • multifaceted understanding of special interest groups and their common rallying points

Architects contribute with:

  • mission statements
  • declaration of shared values
  • accessible procedures to effect cultural development in alignment with mission and values
  • strategic directives
  • operational goals and metrics
  • resources and logistics in support of operational goals

2. Creators

Creator-type Sri-kin enjoy the empowering culture of meaningful communication and collaboration, enjoy sharing what they are working on, and are inspired by others who do the same.

Creators are:

  • driven by internal desire to make and synthesize
  • inspired by and seeking of excellence in their work
  • value personal growth and skill development
  • love to share the joy of creation
  • practice their craft in alignment with Sri-kin values

Creators contribute by:

  • sharing the burden of creating tools and processes that make help everyone find their way toward creative and economic sustainability
  • sharing their works with the world and with other Sri-kin
  • offering and accepting opportunities to collaborate with other Sri-kin

3. Supporters

Supporter-type Sri-kin enjoy being in a space that is vibrant and creative, though they do not traditional creators. Instead, they find ways to improve the overall experience of being part of The Colony.

Supporters are:

  • fulfilled by enabling other people's creative work
  • find satisfaction in being part of a process where they can help
  • understand the value of services they provid
  • amplify the cultural norms through practicing Sri-kin values in an inclusive and confident way

Supporters contribute by:

  • conveying news and stories from Sri-kin to Sri-kin and the world at large.
  • creating comfort and belonging as hosts and ambassadors
  • contribute resources toward common benefit projects
  • curating the works and experiences that they find
  • act as a point of contact for non-Sri-kin per their own interest
  • happily share their appreciation and excitement at what they discover
  • noticing when people are feeling unsure or uncertain, and providing supportive energy

4. Consumers

Consumer-type Sri-kin enjoy the benefits that can be found in The Colony, either purchased through the various markets or stumbled-upon in casual interaction with other Sri-kin. They may not be personally committed to the operation of The Colony itself, but they believe in the values and deeply feel that it is a special place that they want to support by spending money.

Consumers are:

  • appreciative and respectful of our effort to build our culture of meaningful collaboration
  • interested in finding products and services that provide them with tangible value
  • not committed to joining Sri-kin activities or becoming one, but think it's really cool

Consumers contribute by:

  • providing outside perspective to Sri-kin
  • spending money in Sri-kin markets
  • introducing Sri-kin to their own kin
  • providing resources through trade

5. Friends of Sri-kin

Friends of Sri-kin are independent entities that are doing their own thing, but share some interests and critical core values regarding authenticity, transparency, and honesty.

Friends of Sri-kin are:

  • trading partners
  • possible collaborators
  • mutual promoters
  • trusted outside perspectives
  • believers in growing the pie, not splitting it, as the means toward growth
