Accessing Freelancers, Inc

This room is observable by all, but only members of #freelancers-inc can post.

If you’d like to join, post in #chat or #dscafe-operations and I’ll grant you access. There are, however, some minimum requirements for membership:

• You are currently engaged or actively thinking of starting freelancing.
• You are the primary practioner or a part of a small time pursuing freelancing together.

Group Culture

• Here in DS|CAFE there is no hierarchy of freelancing! Everyone is doing their own thing and we’re all awesome for doing that! It doesn’t matter if you’ve been freelancing for a zillion years or are just getting started. We’re all here to support and share for mutual success.
• We can pick a role or department (of one) that we’re representing professionally; you can pick several of them as freelancers wearing multiple hats.
• The vibe is that of a workplace where we are all on friendly terms and wish success for everyone. The ideal is that it is the kind of place where one can share without fear of judgment or being talked-down to.
• We can talk about any issue related to freelancing and related business stuff! If you are looking for a sounding board from fellow freelancers, or workshopping some work, that’s totally cool.
• Don’t give unsolicited advice or critique! If you’re open to it, though, say so and provide a hint about what kind of feedback you’re looking for.
• It’s fine to note what you liked about it or found interesting, or ask if someone wants critical feedback on it. That is not the same as unsolicited advice so it’s okay!

Suggestions on Participation

• On first entry, announce that you have joined and add an introduction about yourself and the kind of freelancer you are. When new members join after you, also provide a short intro (tip: you can write an intro in the server’s #member-intros room and link to that too!)
• We post what we’re working on and report what we finished. In return, participants can provide a thoughtful acknowledgement in the form of cheering progress on, sharing related experience of their own.
• Optionally, check-in and check-out when you are on the clock doing stuff related to freelancing. You can use this mechanism to announce you’re in “freelancing mode”.
