Answering “Why is this position a good fit?”

I have a lot of experience combining computer technology and graphic design to meet the needs of people. I’d like to find an opportunity where my experience can help create communities and connections between people, as part of a team that believes in these same ideals!

For soft skills, I believe these are a good match for the practical needs of a communications-based department:

• I have deep understanding of graphic design principles that, when called for, help convey the intended message across many layers of meaning.
• I have deep computer technology and programming expertise that pushes pass technical barriers to implementing ideas online, whether I need to do it myself or find the people with the right expertise.
• I am very good at deconstructing any need, then creating a living plan to meet those needs on a schedule given what is available.

For hard skills, I have a lot of relevant experience with graphics production software and related hardware from working with digital agencies and my own freelance design practice:

• Audio, video, podcast, and livestreaming production.
• Design and publishing software like Adobe Creative Suite.
• Print design and production using local and remote presses.
• Blogging systems for publishing to the Internet.

Lastly, I have these personal qualities that may resonate with the mission of the library as a whole:

• I am deeply invested in designing creating psychologically-safe community spaces, because I think these are the foundation for happy and fulfilling social groups.
• I am deeply driven to share what I am learning and what I know with others in as authentic a way I can. My many years of continuous blogging backs it up.
• I am excited to see what people do when given knowledge and understanding, helped along with bits of procedural help that I can provide so they can flourish on their own.

I see this job as an opportunity to learn how communities are nurtured over time, helping contributing to the positive influence of the library in what ways I can, supporting the overall vision. It is a good mission and it would be an honor to be part of it.
